I am really sorry about not being able to provide the 60 minute phone cards for events and packaging. I received an email from the Cell Phones for Soldiers program this afternoon because I have repeatedly tried to get more or the sixty minute phone cards for you and for all of the other organizations I have been providing them to – American Legion, Military Moms, USO, packaging, etc. I was told that it will be very difficult to provide them as the cost is so expensive for those phone cards – minimally $420 to $460 per card. I have probably about 600 of the 100 minute phone cards for in the states (20 minutes of that time can be used for overseas calls). I feel really bad because you have worked so hard to gain the donations and have actively sponsored anyone in need of a phone card with a 60 minute card.
I will continue to work towards getting more, but in the meantime, if you are promoting the fact that you have phone cards available for an hour of talk time overseas, I do not have those to give you. You could give a family 3 of the 100 minute cards if they come in for a calling card. Obviously, we will bust through much faster, but I know 20 minutes of talk time from across the world is not a lot. The 100 minute cards do also have an expiration date on them of 12/31/12, but I don’t foresee it being a problem using them up. The program is trying to provide so much talk time to so many, it is tough. As with everything else in our glorious country that we all do really love so much, funds are appropriated wastefully and the government doesn't have the funds for a program like this, nor can the private sector pick up the cost. So we're all out here on our own to do what we can. I guess I should be appreciative that there are veteran medical benefits and disability benefits and schooling for those who served. In this day and age, that has to be a lot of tax dollars. We could have more if we'd stop giving it away, oh and make people work instead of giving out free money.
I just want you to know you have done a more than miraculous job on the phone donations and why I haven’t delivered more of the 60 minute cards. Please let me know if you are running low on the 100 minute phone cards I dropped off at the hall and I will make sure to get you more right away.
